Berlin is populated with research institutions, such as the Fraunhofer Society, the Leibniz Association, the Helmholtz Association and the Max Planck Society, in which almost 65,000 scientists are employed. This city is one of the centres of knowledge and innovation communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.
