Visakhapatnam, a.k.a. the ‘City of Destiny’ and the ‘Jewel of the East Coast,’ is the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Chosen as one of the cities to be developed under the Smart Cities Mission, the city is also a major tourist destination known for its beaches, caves and the Eastern Ghats and wildlife sanctuaries. The city also serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command and is home to the oldest shipyard and the only natural harbour on the east coast of India. The port of Visakhapatnam is India’s fifth busiest cargo port. The city is home to four ancient Buddhist sites, namely, Pavurallakonda, Sankaram Thatlakonda and Bavikonda.
